John Thomas Stone, who married her at the Christchurch registry office in 1900 and immediately deserted her. George Smith, charged with neglecting to provide adequate maintenance for two eons aged eight and six, who were found by the Wliangarei police in an emaciated condition, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the judge stating that accused'* housekeeper, though not criminally responsible, evidently had her share in grossly neglecting the children.
