OITXAKK iIACIXG CLUB. TSie annual meeting of tlie Opunake Racing Club was hold on Monday, when Mr. L. E. Jackson pn sided over a good attendance. Tlie committee reported that during' the year good progress had been made, and the popularity of tlie meeting, as the annual holiday for a large district, fully maintained. They also had the pleasure of having tlie Acting Prime Minister, Sir James Carroll, present at the meeting. Receipts had been well maintained, the revenue from the total-! isator showed a marked increase. The second mortgage of £IOO had been l cleared, and various improvements made to the property. The Gaming Act Commission appointed by Parliament last year made the following recommendations with reference to this club:—"Tlie erection of proper appointments, including alteration of seven furlong start, and fitting proper sanitary accommodation." For the purpose of giving ell'ec;. to these they had authorised the preparation of the necessary plans for the following works:—(l) Grandstand to be lengthened; (2) removal of totalisator. house to a more convenient site; (3) erection of a publican's booth; (4) erection of five loose boxes; (5) erection of up-to-date lavatories; (6) renewal of saddling paddock fencing where necessary. ■ The course property was in good order, and the tenant was carrying out the conditions of the lease in a very thorough moaner.

The .balance-sheet showed tlie principal receipts to have been: Totalisator coinmission £451 2s Oil, trainers' fees £lsl 10s, privileges £27(1, rent £4l. numbers' subscriptions £34 13s. The main items of expenditure were: Slakes .-U370. Government tax £143, improvements'" to course £O2 3s Ifld. Assets were £1730 Is Sd in excess of liabilities. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Messrs. A. D. J. Uooper, W. Lambie, Pohe Tito, Taki Bishop, C. Arden, D. M. Scott. O. Walker, and H. lUwclifl'e were elected members.

Offioers were elected as follows: President, Mr. A. Good; vice-presidents Messrs. A. Clarke, J. P. Burton, M. J. Brennan, and W. K. Connell; judge. Mt. W. V. Young; starter, Mr. A. Morse; treasurer, Mr. L. E. Jackson; timekeepers, Messrs. CI. 11. Gibson and W. J. Knell; lion, surgeon, Dr. 11. Dunlop Barron; committee, Messrs! L. E. Jackson (chairman), J. Young, W. Lambie, S. Forsyth, D. Campbell, J. P. Burton, A.. Clarke, G. Newsham, J. McDavitt, arid J. M. Hickey. The annual meeting will in future be held in the first week in October.
