(From Our Own Correspondent). At the statutory annual meeting of Clifton County Council held yesterday Mr. S. Elliot was appointed chairman. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. R. Pennington (Mr. Roy) v. P. K. Worthington (Mr. Grey), claim £25, value of a Jersey cow and calf. From the evidence it appeared that plaintiff had leased a cow to Mr. Walter Wilkes. The latter subsequently sold the cow to defendant. Plaintiff claimed he had never offered for sale to Wilkes the cow in dispute, and when Wilkea advertised a cow for sale he (plaintiff) asked if it was the cow he had leased. The reply was in the negative, Wilkes saying it was another cow he had at Hnirangi. The S.M. said he was of the opinion that Pennington never sold the cow to Wilkes, although defendant may have bought it bona fide. Counsel had a conference with a view to attempting to settle the matter, but failed to do so, and plaintiff was nonsuited. Judgment by default was given in the cases of F. Iredale v. West Coast Milling Co., claim £2B lis 2d, costs £2 18s; Chas. Dunbar v. Oliver S. Northcott, claim £1 17s 6d, costs £1 10s Gd; Albert Waters v. Edward Hughes, claim £l3 19s lOd, costs £1 18a fid.
