ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
* AN ITALIAN DROWNED.
By Telegraph—Press Association. ' Wellington, Monday. Antonio Ferratti, nge<l 23, and Roberta Peiino left Mann Island yesterday morning in a small boat, and when crossing the bar of Porirua harbor a violent squall upset the boat. Ferratti attempted to swim to a motor boat which was approaching to the rescue, but sank, and was not seen again. Pezino hung on to the overturned boat till rescued. Deceased was a native of Italy and had n»t been long in the Dominion. He has no relatives in the Dominion.
A BOY DROWNED.
Whangarei, Monday. The police have received information that a six-year-old boy named Keith Osborne was drowned at Kaimamaku, 30 miles north of Whangarei, last night. 1 Details are meagre. SUDDEN DEATH. Carterton, Monday. A woman named Horn died suddenly at Greytown yesterday. A clot of blood lodging in the heart caused immediate death. Deceased had been employed by J. Jury, Ponatahi. YOUNG MAN DROWNED. ' Nelson, Last Night. A young man named Henry Bird was drowned at Takaka yesterday. His small sailing boat was struck by a squall and capsized, throwing him into the water. SUICIDE OF AN INVALID. : Wellington, Last Night. An inquest was he!d to-day concerning the death of Alfred Thomas Daniel, temporary clerk in the Education Department, 33 years of age, who was found dead in bed at his lodging house by his ' brother on Sunday. The medical evidence showed that death was due to poisoning by strychnine. It appeared from other evidence that the deceased had been suffering internally for some time and bought ten grains of strychnine on Saturday from a chemist in order to kill a caff. Deceased's brother asked how it was possible for a customer to get such a large quantity at one time. The chemist replied that it was not a large quantity for a cat, as a cat was pretty hard 1 to kill. The coroner (Dr. A. McArthur) gave a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
