-Mr. Dingle, in opening the proceedings. apologised for the non-presentation of a full report from the executive committee, The secretary, lie explained, had hut just returned from the Wanganui show, where he had been successfully soliciting entries for this show. Anil during that morning he had been kept so bus y receiving entries as to preclude the possibility of his preparing a full report for the meeting. The secretary reported that the executive committee had held frequent meetings, and all the arrangements for the show were well forward. Judges, stewards and all other officials had been appointed. The horse and bull boxes authorised had been completed. The secretary bad visited the Egmont. Wanganui and IJanawatu shows, and had met with gratifying support, entries com ing forward well. At Wanganui he had received a hundred entries, besides which some two or three hundred had been definitely promised. The president ad<led that the Association was better prepared than last year for receiving and caring for stock. lie invited, suggestions for consideration by the executive.
Mr. Thomas said there were doubtless many like, himself, who, having cattle ti) exhibit, were not prepared to lead the exhibits in the ring, and had no one to whom this duty could be entrusted. —An assurance was given that exhibitors would be fully assisted in this respect. ■ ' THE CHARGE AT THE GATE. Mr. Richards said that when in Hawera he had been told by several connected with the Egmont A. '& P. Association that the decision of .that Asso eiation to double the gate charge—making it 2s —had been arrived' at % consequent on an understanding ' that. the Stratford Association had agreed to do likewise. Jle asked if this were so. ' The president said that late in October last a letter had been received from Mr. Treweek. stating that Egmont had fixed the prices of admission at 2s for male adults, and Is for, ladies, and asked this Association to fall'into line. Hut the Stratford .schedule,"was already issued then, giving the information that a shilling was to be charged here, and it was too late to make anv alteration. ,*
" The secretary also read a letter froni the Stratford Association, dated September 2. 1010, to the Egmont A. & P. Association, suggesting a Conference of delegates of the tlire'e Taranaki associations to discuss'this and other matters. That conference'did pot take place. ■ Mr. Thomson said it had been made clear that the idea originated at Stratford. and not atHawera. The President: The idea of a conference originated here,<- ; an<l conference ought to he .held,; ' But. we did not promise to raise'our .charge. ■
Mr. ebb lliought'the most'important thing to do was to emphasise that the shilling' admission fee would, be adhered to at the local show. ■ '. Kirkwood T visited I lie Sf n>! fm'd <howfrimnd the. oilrr a f! iTiirMi. There are 38 acres ill all. nf, which the Associations owns the freehold. Thiil the whole eonntrvside been starched probably 110 more suitable
'spot could have boon found. There is a gradual slope axvay u> the eastward, and from any part of the giouud a fine view of the surrounding country can be obtained. The property was log-strewn and rough eighteen months ago. ToI day there are acres of good grass underJ foot, a spacious grandstand, including I secretary's office, members' luncheon j room, telegraph office, and so on. The J judging ring is large and well fenced, and this slopes nicely downwards from the stand, so that a splendid view of the parading stock can be obtained. Recently forty bull and horse boxes have been erected to the eastward of the ring, and these are well constructed and .spacious. They should prove of great value to exhibitors of stud stock. Additional cattle-pens have been erected, and gates erected across the races outside the pens will be invaluable to exhibitors yarding their stock. There is a large building for dairy produce and home industries, and good accommodation for the poultry and dog sections. Ample space is reserved for side-shows and for the public to promenade, and additional seats are being placed on high ground overlooking the ring. There is a pretty piece of bush in a gully running between the railway line and the grandstand, and this promises to prove very attractive as a lunching ground, and as a pleasant spot for a rest when fat cattle, and horses, and side-shows, and all other sections of the show have had their share of attention. The showground promises to be one of the finest in the Dominion,' and will be ample fo.r all the needs of the Association in all the years, to be. The officers ■ and committee are deserving of the highest praise for the pitch of excellence to which the grounds have been brought in so short a time. DAIRY FACTORY PAYMENTS. Several of the dairy factory companies in this district paid out to suppliers to-day for milk supplied during October. The usual practice is to pay out on the 20th, but as Saturday is market-day, and the 20th arrives 011 Monday, the cheques were made available earlier for Ihe convenience of the suppliers. Here are some of the details: — The Xgaire cheese-making concern paid out £2400, for 40,2.091b of butterfat content, the price being Is per lb. 111 October, 1910, the butter-fat totalled 53.20111), but paymciw was at the rate of 10'/ad per lb, "totalling £2319. Lowgarth (cheese) pays out on the record basis of Is iy 2 d per lb, as against | lid last year.' During October 34,9571b of butter-fat were supplied, for which £1960 was paid. In the previous October the supply was smaller, 34,0311b, and suppliers received £1587. Cardiff Dairy Company, also a cheese- J making concern, paid £1405 for October ] 'milk, on the basis of Is per lb for 28,112 j 10 of butter-fat. The supply during Oc- 1 tober hist year was 35,3341b, but only I lO'/od per lb was paid, and the cheques , totalled £1545. j The. Stratford Co-operative Farmers'' Association paid out £5070 for the October supply.
GENERAL NOTES. ■Mr. J.
