OMATA. (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of the Omata school committee was held on Thursday evening, November 16, at which all the members were present. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the chairman, Mr. E. C. Meredith, submitted the following correspondence to, the meeting:—From the Education Board, re capitation ( £4 |os), re closing school on show days, arid re closing school for epidemic; from Stratford A. and P. Association, re closing school on show day; from Miss Mace, asking for a rise 'in her salary for cleaning school; from Mr. McDonald, Te map. It was resolved not to do anything re nfcp, also that the school close on the; 2;ird for the show. Mr. Pearson proposed, and Mr, E. George seconded, that Miss Mace be allowed £2 10s per quarter for cleaning. Mr. Bovitt proposed, and Mr. Ramsbottom seconded, that tenders be called for cleaning, but this was lost by four to two. Mr. Matthews proposed and Mr. Bovitt seconded, that the amount be £2 Ss per quarter. Thi9 amendment was also lost by three to two, and the original motion was then carried.
Mr. Pearson proposed, and Mr. Kendall seconded, that prizes be procured by Mr.i Meyenberg as last year, but the dux' prize be given to the child that has gained the highest percentage of marks at the final examination irrespective of standard. —Carried.
Mr. Meredith proposed, and Mr. Matthews seconded, that the prizes be given out at the hall 011 the evening of the 21st of December, when the school will close for the Xmas holidays,—Carried. The chairman reported that he had applied to the County Council to metal that portion of Wairekei road between the Main road and the school. Mr. McAllum, member for the riding, had been out, and with himself had inspected the work requested, and had favorably reported to the Council, and at their last meeting the request was granted and the work authorised. Accounts to the amount of £lO 14s 3d were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
Mr. Bellringer gave a political address in Omuta Hall on Friday evening last. About twenty persons were present. jMr. E. C. Meredith was voted to the chair. Mr. Bellringer spoke lor about two hours on the lints already reported in yo\y columns, and at the close of his address a hearty vote of thanks was proposed and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
