VOTES FOR WOMEN. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, November 17. The Premier, replying to a suffragette deputation, declined to introduce a measure conferring the franchise on the same terms as on men, because he did r.ot believe it was demanded in the interests of the country. The Government would yield if tlie women persuade' the majority of the House of Commons to give tliem the vote. The deputation is dissatisfied, and announces that a demonstration will be made in Parliament Square on Tuesday. Received 19, 5.5 p.m. London, November 18. Mr. Asquith, replying to a deputation of suffragettes, stated that personally he had never seen his way to support women's suffrage because he was unable to persuade himself it was good for the State. The majority of his colleagues favored women's suffrage, but the Opposition was as much divided as the Ministerialists.
