EAST END BATHING RESERVE

The annual meeting of the East End l-atliiug Reserve Committee was held 011 Aridity night. The secretary, Mr. W. 11. Fletcher, in his annual report, stated that the past season hud been very sueoivisful. The receipts, including the balance brought forward from last year, amounted to £BO Os Id, and the expenditure to £0(1 IDs 4d, leavin» a •redit balance of £22 Os 9d. In addition the Borough Council still had to the credit of the committee a sum ol IT) 10s 3d. During the year considerable improvements had been effected at the reserve, the river had been cleared of some of the logs, two swings and two boats had been erected on the sands and a number of additional seats provided. The pathway leading to the reserve from Autere street had also been re-graded and the entrance at this point improved. The thanks of the committee were due to the ladies' committee, under Mrs. Dockrill, and to all those persons who assisted in any vav during-the year, and to the press. Mr. F. C. Bellringer was elected chairman of the committee in place of Mr. Webster resigned. Mr. Fletcher was reelected secretary, and the following were appointed an executive committee Messrs. G. Griffiths, Stroud, Kivell, Flanaghan', Buttimore, with the officers exofficio members.

It was decided to recommend the incoming committee to consider the advisability of purchasing two boats for the. river. The committee placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by the retiring chairman (Mr. Webster) and the secretary and treasurer (Mr. Fletcher), It was decided that the executive committee be recommended to wait on the Borough Council and draw attention to the shocking state of the Buller street approach to the' "bench. It was further agreed that tenders be called for the right to sell fruit, etc., during tie season on the reserve. Mr. Fletcher brought up the question of forming a life-saving club at the bench. The matter was left in his hands to call a meeting of all those interested, and to form a club.
