FANNING ISLAND.
THE POSITION OF THE SYNDICATE. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, November 17. Hr. Wilward, manager of the Pacific cable, referring to the cable report that a British and Canadian syndicate had purchased Fanning and Washington Islands, explains that evidently the syndicate is supposed to have acquired estate, co-extensive with the area of the islands, but that cannot be the ease in Fanning Island, where the Pacific Cable Board has secured a plot for the landing station, which is vested in them for 50 years. Such acquisition would not alter the nationality of the islands, and therefore he fails to see its international significance.
