MULES, DOGS, SLEDGES. AND STORES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christehwch, Last Night. The preparations for the departure of the Terra Nova for the Antarctic are Being pushed on, and it is anticipated that everything will be in readiness- for thl* vessel to leave on December loth. "Vanous stores and requisites asked for byCaptain Scott are coming to hand, and they will shortly be stowed away in the vessel's hold. It<re common Knowledge that the Terra Nova will take down seven Indian tron?*" port mules and fourteen sledge dogs. Mr. J. J. Kinsey, who has been acting for Captain Scott, states -that in the event of the expedition not reaching the Pole this season, the mules and tlogs would be available as a reserve for an attempt next season. Even if the Polewere reached this season, a party would' in all probability be left in Antarctica,' to carry on important scientific work. The animals would bo invaluable to the party for transport work. Air. Kinsey is also sending down twelve sledges which were required by the leader of the expedition. Six of these were presented by an Australian firm, and six were procured from Norway. Snow-shoes for the mules and. ponies are also being Bent d«wn. 'The mules and dogs now on Quail Island are doing splendidly, and it is expected that they will be in fine fettle for work in the Antarctic.
