A SHOCKING AFFAIR.
YOUNG SETTLER KILLED OX THE RAILWAY. By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, Wednesday. A shocking accident occurred yesterday afternoon at Lake Road railway station between Te Awamutu and Ohaupo, resulting in the almost instantaneous death of Jack Burke, a young and highly respected settler residing at Kio Kio a few miles from Te Awamutu. Burke was returning home by train from the Ohaupo cattle sale, and was breaking the .journey at Lake Road station. Before the train had fully pulled up he jumped on to the platform and was thrown under the carriage, his hotly being almost severed near the thighs. The victim' leaves a young widow, married about eighteen months ago , and a child, two months old. His relatives are wellknown in the Taranaki district.
