PROPOSED SUMNER CANAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christehurch, Tuesday. The Hon. E. Mitchelson and Messrs. W. Ferguson and J. E. Watson, the special commission appointed by the harbor board to report on the commercial aapects of the Sumner Oanal proposal, met at Christehurch to-day. Mr. 'Mitchelson was appointed chairman. The commission will, probably sit for a week. GASWORKS ON FIRE. Christehurch, Tuesday. The Rangiora Gasworks had a aiarrow escape this morning from being destroyed by fire, but fortunately the outbreak was confined to a shed attached to the retort house.
