PANAMA CANAL PLOT.
ARREST OF DESPERATE ANARCHISTS. Held in the Federal prison in the Panama Canal zone, is a man suspected of being an accomplice of Professor Ferrer the Barcelona anarchist executed in! Spam. The prisoner is said to be connected with a plot to dynamite the canal works, assassinate Colonel (Joethals, and wreck the entire scheme for uniting the two oceans. lit is believed that an organised band ot anarchists has been discovered among the Spanish workmen employed on the canal. The discovery was made through the detention and alleged confession of a laborer who is believed to be Apnilino Lopez, a Barcelona anarchist who was implicated in the murder of priests nuns, and other religious workers in Spain two years ago. An American priest at Culebra, who is one of the official interpreters of the Canal Commission, gave the information the other week which led to the arrest of Lopez and several other anarchists. The man supposed to be Lopez said he was an anarchist and that he had orders to come to Panama to disrupt the organisation and cause revolts among Spanish and other laborers. It is also stated that he admitted the existence of plots to destroy the effectiveness of the canal by dynamite exploded in the Gatun and Pedro Miguel locks. Lopez and the others are imprisoned pending a thorough investigation of the priests's charges that they were connected with the Barcelona outrages. If this connection be established they will be deported to Spain and tried.
