BOROUGH COUNCIL.
j MONTHLY REPORTS. ,' The business at to-night's- meeting ol tlio Borough Council will include discussion of the following reports from officers and standing committees. ■BOROUGH ENGINEER. Sewer Works.—Tn Liardct street the sewer is now completed as far as Gilbert street, but there is at.il sufficient money in vote to take it ■on to Fillis street. In Gilbert street the sewer is | completed to Cover street, and .should I be laid another 5 chains more to Cameron i street, as the balance of Ike vote is sufficient to carry it on. At Courtenay street the sewer has been hung up owing to the difficulty in getting the pipes down from Auckland. In Ilulteel street the sewer is just completed. street Works.—The Hobson street metalling is now completed except for blinding and rolling, and in Buller street the formations is completed and only requires counter-sinking, but before this is dene the sewer should be laid. The Barrett street formation is now completed, except for rolling, and in Morley street the formation is also completed, and the metalling is completed, except for the rolling. The raising of the Western Park fence is now being done. j Kerbing and Channelling.—The Fillis | street kerbing is now completed, and the , path has been made up, but requires I some gaol gravel. The Liardet street kerbing and channelling between Gilbert and Pendarvcs straits is now being done. When this is completed the road will require raising and re-metalling. Devos street between Carrie and Liardet l streets requires patching. This part will have to be remetalled before long. j Water-works.—At the water-works tunnel a few iron bars should be put at the intake to prevent any large logs from getting into tire first screen chamber. ' Sometimes logs get into this chamber (which is about half a chain from the intake) and the caretaker finds it difficult to get them out by himself. The weeds j at the old water-works should be cut at! oncd I General.—The earthwork in Gaine: street can be gone on with when the necegsary authority is given. The five new fire plugs (authorised by tire Coun-1 cil) in Devon street are now put in. | ELECTRICAL ENGINEER'S RE- j PORT. | Some poles on the transmission line , have been replaced by heavier square, poles. About a dozen more require to j be changed, and this work will be carried- out as soon as we can get time to attend to it. In Buller street, where | the level of the street has just been : lowered, four 25ft. poles have been taken' •ut and replaced by 30ft. poles from the j transmission line. Nearly all the re- j turned poles have been trimmed, tarred, and erected. A number of poles in the west end of the town have also been replaced by new ones. Of the poles taken out, some only required to be trimmed and re-erected where they would not have the same strain, others had to be cut down to 25ft, while I have condemned three as not good enough to be used again, making a total of fjve poles condemned since starting operation's". ' 1 Quotations have been received for the J 25ft. poles required for the extensions! we have in view, but as we have used all: the lighter 30ft. poles on hand, I would I suggest that we procure some more 30ft. I by Din. to Cin., and not so many 25ft. I A few 35ft. poles should also be procured,! as we have none on hand. The insulated | line wire ordered has ::<nv <-o:>;.n to band. At the rate new consumers niv coiuing on this wire will not last very long. I would recommend that a further three miles be ordered. i ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. | The Electric Light Committee recommends: —That a progress payment of t!)2 l!)s (id be made to Mr. W.
