ALLEGED LIBEL.
♦ ACTIOS BY ME. McCLUGGAGK. States the Stratford Post:—Mr. Joseph McCluggage, liberal candidate for the Stratford scat, to-day instructed his solicitors to issue a writ claiming £IOOO damages for an alleged libel which appeared in the "New Zealand Town and Country Life'' (a weekJy paper published ■ in Auckland) on September tl. The libel is in connection with a reference to what is known as the Fincham incident, after detailing which the paper went on to say: "Jly a curious coincidence, the New Zealand Times, when publishing this forged letter also published, immediately above , it, a letter signed 'Joseph McCluggage,' bearing the "same address and date (i.e., 'Stratford, August 23') as the alleged 'Edward Fincham epistle. Mr. McCluggage, who is the Government candidate for Stratford, and who will therefore be Mr. nine's opponent at the November elections, also endeavored to cast the slur of untruthfulness upon Mr. Hine."
