RAILWA YM EN'S WAGES. i By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Yesterday. At a meeting held on Saturday of the Otago branch of (he Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants it was unanimously resolved that this meeting enters an emphatic protest against the Minister of Railways' breach of faith ill not raising the wages of the lower paid men to !ls per dav as foreshadowed by him when dealing with'the Budget. The Chief Justice to-day dismissed the appeal of the Fresh Food and Tee Company against it- conviction for selling milk adulterated with water. Sir Robert Stout said the statute threw the responsibility for the sale of food 011 the vendor; therefore the absence of mens rea (guilty intention) was not open to the defendant company as an excuse unless it proved affirmatively that it had taken all reasonable steps so that the sale would not constitute an offence or obtained a written warranty as 1o the article to be sold.
