TARANAKI AND SETTLEMENT
A FORWARD MOVE. Considerable energy is being shown in the Landa Department in the direction of expediting land settlement in Taranaki, and in a very short time plans will be published giving all necessary inform-. ation as to area, terms, date of ballot, etc. The following are particulars of the blocks:— There are to be 12,000 acres thrown open in the Whatitokorua block, situated about four miles from Taumarunui, and lying between the Main Trunk lino, of railway and the Ohura road. The land wil bo divided into areas of from 300 to 500 acres, and will be balloted for at Taumarunui this month or early in December. I In the Raoramouka block, 10,000 acres will be opened up. Access to this land will be obtained from the Stratford-Te Koura railway, via the Puniwhakau road, and the ballot will lake place at Stratford. The Whakaihuwaka block of 7000 acres is also nearly ready for selection. Access t» this will be from the Waitotara Valley road or the Waverley railway station. The ballot will take place at Patea at an early date. There are to be 10,000 acres opened up in the Paumatamahoe block, access being available via Whangamomona. Another 10,000 acres of the Whatitokorua block, in addition to what we have already mentioned above, will also be opened up. Access to this will be via Douglas road railway station. The Taliora township is also being surveyed, in anticipation of the approach of the railway from Stratford.
