They were tained by the exhibition executive,'and Sir. Joseph Ward, responding to the toiist. of the Government, stressed the importance of keeping before tlie public the excellent work done ibv New Zealand workers. The Government recognised that at some time it would require to reconsider the tariff affecting importation of certain articles which JiAd a detrimental effect on local industries and' the employment of New Zealand vfprkmem. He referred to the iron 'industry as one which the Government \vouls like to do something for. Referring to the Tourist Department, he said it was earning £20,000 annually, and he looked.forward to the time when it would rqiay out of profits the whole expenditure.' incurred in connection with it.
