PEOPLE'S DAY. By Telegraph— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. I There was a beautiful day and a tremendous crowd for People's Day at the Manawabu Show. The grand parade was a feature of the show, and provided the finest display of stock ever seen on the ground. The total takings for the three days at the gates and stands-were £IO7B, a decrease of £ls compared to last year, almost entirolv due to the falling-off in the takings at the stands. The sum of £639 was taken at the main gates to-day, a considerable increase on the takings of last People's Day. Mr E. D. O'Rorke (Auckland) won the hunters competition with Cloister for the third successive vear, and the Challenge Cup, valued at 15 guineas, prethe ladies of Manawatu and Rangitikei districts, becomes bis property. At the presentation at the conclusion Mr. O'Rorke said that he was prouder of winning the trophy than he would be of winning the New Zealand Cup. The same owner's Kierau was selected to jump oft" for second place, but was withdrawn, Mr. O'Rorke being satisfied with winning the cup. Watson's least defeated Rangitoto for second place. Other competitions were won as fol- ! lows:— [ Pony 'leaping: T. Cameron's Blue Bell. Harness horse, style and action: G. A Harrison's Vae Vict'is. Lady's and gentlemen's hack, judged as a pair: E. Nelson's Regret and Montana Rim'. Lady Driver: Miss G. Robertson. Special prizes were won as follows: Wr. Perry, of Masterton. wins Levin & Co.'s Lincoln Cun and Quibbell's Romney Cup outright, and won Snort's Romnev MVrsh Challenge Cup of 100 guineas value for the second successive year. If he wns next year he will win it outright. The Sheep Dip Company's Cup was won by Ellis Bros. (Bulls). E. Short's special prize of £SO for best Romney ram, to be judged for type wool and shape, was won by H. S. Hadfield (Paraparamwu) and A.'and J. Gray (Mastertori), a tie, Wm. Gibbon (Feilding) being second, and Gray Bros, third. TARANAKI SUCCESSES HORSES, Mr. Arthur. Cliff's (Now Plymouth) Lord Nolan had the distinction 'of bein« the best-paced and mannered horse on the ground. _ Tn the under 15 hands class G. A. Harrison (Eltham) won out of a very fine lot with Vae Victis. J. S. Oughton (Mount Royal) took the reserve championship in 'colts foaled since 1008. J. D. Mitchell (Manaia) also won a first prizo in the draught section. CATTLE. In Shorthorn Mr. G. A. Turner (Eltham) secured first prize and champion for aged bull, bred bv Archdeacon Williams, and first prize for bull calved since 1009. Tn Holsteins Mr. Newton King secured a first prize with his two-year-old bull Cnnimodoude Knol; also first and second in_ the yearling bull class out of 24 entries. He also secured a first prize with his two-year-old and three-year-old heifers. BUTTERFAT COMPETITION. In t'ho bufcterfafc competition Mr. A. 11. Halcombe secured second place with 17-2y 2 lh milk, 4.5 test, 7.77021b fat giving 17.25 milk test, and 11)4.05 fat points, a total of 211.30. Mr. W. T. Lovelock owned the winning cow, which secured a total of 218.87 pts.
