During the voyage of the Atlicnie from London, John Proctor, aged four, died from acute pneumonia. His parents were booked for Auckland.

FRUIT FROM SYDNEY. Wellington, Wednesday. The iMocraki brought 2800 eases of fruit from Sydney, all for Wellington. GUILTY OF ARSON. Wellington, Wednesday. llenry Edward Whiteman and Leonard Edwards pleaded guilty at the Police Court to wilfully setting fire to a whare at Wallaceville and breaking, entering and stealing goods valued at £'ll 8s f>d. They were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed. The police gave them a good character. DECEASED PERSONS' ESTATES. Wellington, Wednesday. The estates of 242 deceased persons wer certified for stamp duty during October, the largest being tliat of Eleanor S. Combes, of Auckland, £22,291. The Taranaki estates over £SOO are: Jane Street £0251 and Emily C. P. Capel, £1193.

A SERIOUS CHARGE. Auckland, Wednesday. At the Police Court, a married woman named Mrs. Lang was charged with performing an illegal operation on a young woman, who is in a hospital, but, in the doctor's opinion, is not in danger of her life. Accused was remanded on bail on two sureties of £l5O each. WELLINGTON DOCK CASE! Wellington, Wednesday. In the special case, Pitcaithly and Co. v. John McLean and Sons, litigation arising out of the stopping of the Wellington dock contract, the Chief Justice held there was no undertaking on the part of defendants to order sand and gravel beyond what was required. Counsel for defendants asked for judgment on a claim for £20,000, contending that the effect of Sir Robert Stout's decision was that plaintiffs had not cause for action. The motion for judgment was deferred till Wednesday next.
