WAITARA NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent) The Fire Brigade received their bell and tower on Tuesday, and no time is being wasted in its erection, the work being well in hand. The tower is some 30 feet high and the hell weighs about SOOlbs. Both were made by Messrs. 'A. and T. Burt, of Dunedin.

Three of the ridings of the Clifton County only nominated one member, and in these cases there will be no election. The unopposed members are: Messrs A. Elliot (U'aihi riding), F. Gleeson (Urenui riding), and R. T. Hieks (Tikorangi riding). For the Mokau riding Mr. Bower is contesting the honor with Messrs. Musker and O'Sullivan, whilst the two sitting members for Ngatimarn, Messrs. Sander and Kennington are opposed by Messrs. A. Corkill and McCoanl. For the Hospital Board Mr. A. 11. Halcombe is contesting the seat with Mr. C. O'Sullivan.
