"TWO-UP" SCHOOL RAIDED. ! By Cable—Press Association—Copyright j Christchurch, Yesterday, i The police yesterday raided a big ''two- f up" school at Sockburn. There were about forty men present. It is understood that a large number of players were.identified. On the approach of the detectives it is alleged that the gamblers took to their heels, but half-a-dozen were captured, WRECKAGE FOUND. Auckland, Yesterday. The Collector of Customs has been advised that since the barrel was washed ashore on the Great Barrier Island some timber and wreckage have been stranded on the island. He has sent a man to make investigations. The barrel washed ashore was a seventy-pound ox-tongue cask. So far there is no clue as to the identity of the wreckage. PLASTERERS' STRIKE. Wellington, Yesterday. Wellington plaßterers ceased work in the majority of cases on Friday night. Their demand is for Is 8d per hour and a 44 hour week, in place of Is 7d and 45 hours. Conferences up to the present have proved abortive. SELF-DENIAL WEEK. Dunedin, Yesterday. The Salvationists' self-denial week realised: South Island, £5820, an increase 'of £l4O over last year; North Island, £8585, an increase of £859. NO-LICENSE IN WAIHI. Waihi, Yesterday. At the close of the open-air meeting } held .by the clergy on Saturday night, in reference to Socialism, Mr. W. J. Jordan, No-license organiser, took the occasion to criticise the recent deputation as ta the action of the. Mayor re the effect of No-license in Waihi. He denounced the whole business as a piece of liquor party engineering, and stated that business had not suffered.
