N.Z. COMPETITIONS.
YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Tjie competitions were continued today in the Town Hall, which was packed, large numbers being turned away, Results:—
Solo pianist Tecital contest, open to all, test pieces "Rondo a Caprioccio," in G op. 12!) Beethoven, and "Bercenti," in D Hat op. 57 Chopin. First prize SO guinea Bechstein piano, presented by the British and Continental Piano Co., second prize £B.—Baxter Buckley (Gore), 1.; Rene Queree (Wellington), 2; Madeline Webb (Auckland). 3. Trere were 28 competitors. The judge. Mr. Gregson, said that Mr. Buckley's" effort was the most matured performance. He was a fine temperamental musician. Miss Queree was only a few marks behind. She played her piece well. Altogether he was agreeably surprised at the degree of talent displayed by at least a dozen of the performers, while only one or two were mediocre.
