Snowden, Jowett, Thorne and Lansbury argued before the Labor Party's executive for opposition to the Insurance Bill. Messrs. Snowden and Lansbury took up a defiant attitude, and the subject was postponed. Mr. Chamberlain and other Opposition leaders complain that the amendments to the Bill will not affect the class below the friendly society members, and that it is a misnomer to describe is a national scheme.
CONTRACTING OUT INSURANCE. ACTION BY. SHIPPING FEDERATION. Received 2!), 5.5 p.m. London, October 28. The Shipping Federation has promoted a scheme for contracting out the Insurance Bill. Many conferences have been held between shipowners and seamen, also the Treasury. The plan covers everyone within the Shipping Act —Seamen, dockers and Lascars. Mr. Havelock Wilson is taking a leading hand in the movement. A BY-ELECTION. London, October 27. Mr. Hobhouse has been re-elected unopposed for Bristol. Received 29, 5.5 p.m. London,' October 28. Following are details of the voting at the Keigliley election:—Mr. Buckmaster (Liberal) 5C67, Mr. Acworth (Unionist) 3842; Mr. Anderson (Labor) 3450.
