'MEXICAN REVOLT ENDED.

Madero, the leader of the revolution which orerthrew the despotic Government of Mexico, seem to be rapidly falling away from him (wrote a San Francisco cor-' respondent on 9th August). Reports) from all portions of Mexico show that Madero has been unable to restore order, and the affairs of the republic appear to 1h? approaching another crisis. The followers of Francisco V. Gomez. » powerful politician, threaten to start a new revolution, and at a meeting of discontented Madcristos in 'Mexico City a few nights ago allegiance was transferred to Gomez. To offset the efforts of the Gomez faction the Government has sent troops to auard the National Palace and the Chepultepec Castle. Open hostilities in the capital are possible any day. But the man most rapidly coming to the front in Mexico is General lit rnardo Reyes. Reyes is a popular idol in Mexico. For ten years he was Minister of War under President Diaz. That despot liecame apprehensive of the grow- j ing popularity of his Minister, and two year- before his own downfall despatched Reyes to Europe on a mission whii-h kept him out of Mexico until the revolution. Reyes came back at the time the •alien Diaz wa- leaving, and they passed one another on the Atlantic Ocean. Before leaving Europe General Reyes stated that he was returning to a->i-t in putting down the revolution, but on his arrival he found the Maderi-tos in victorious control, and thereafter found occasion to moderate bis langua"v. He gave in his adhesion to the revolutionary leader, and promised that he would become Mini-ter of War in M.ub ro's Cabinet. But much opposition to Reyes developed among Madero's followers, as b result of which Madero has released the gem ral from his promise.
