The Country Press Conference condemned the growing evil of "squib"' newspapers, and is to ask the Postmas-ter-General to appoint a board of experts to determine what publications are entitled to transmission through the post newspapers.
A " MONSTROUS CLAIM." Received 27, 10 p.m. Melbourne, October 27. During the Arbitration Court proceedings, Mr. Justice Higgins considered the seamen's claim to £1 7s 2d for working m the port on Sunday as monstrous. Counsel for the seamen admitted it was desired to make the demand prohibitive, so as to stop Sunday work.
THE SEXES IX VICTORIA. Received 27, 10 p.m. Melbourne, October 27. The census returns show that the sexes in Victoria are almost equal, there being 100 females to every 100 males.
ESPERANTO AXD PEACE. Received 27, 10 p.m. Adelaide, October 27. • Governor Bosanquet officially opened the Esperanto conference. He said if international conversation was generally accepted it would clear the air of false statements and lying rumors so dangerous to peace, and also would prove of great advantage to science.
