| 1 I The District Synod was opened on Tuesday at Wanganui, Mr. E. Pepperell j presiding I The election of officers resulted: Chair[man, Rev. B. Metson; vice-chairman, Mr. M. Andrews: secretary. Rev. 11. Sharp; assistant secretary. Rev. R. J. Liddell. In the retiring chairman's address reference was made to the progress of negotiations with the sister church towards Methodist union, an d emphasised the need of an aggressive, strong Christianity to combat the indifference and apathy of the world towards sniritual things. The total membership of the dsitrict was reported at 30", an increase of M; adherents, 14.05; ministers, 5; churches and preaching places, 30. The report of the Sunday School secretary showed: Schools 10." teachers 00, scholars 748, an increase of 3 schools, 2 teachers, and «i 0 scholars. _ A resolution was passed urging on the circuits in the district the grave necessity for fostering the work among the young people of the church, and that Bible classes, or Christian Endeavor Societies be cultivated assiduously.
