Herr Bethmann-T-lollweg, the Chancellor, declared that the abolition of duties was urged with the object of destroying the fundamental principles of the country and the economic policy of the Government. He would resolutely resist even the suspension of duties as dangerous. The declaration was greeted with uproar from the Social Democrats.
