IN AUSTRALIA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 24, 12.40 a.m. Perth. October 23. Seventy-three unions participated in the Eight Hour Day celebrations, nearly double last year's number. The Premier. Ministers and Labor members headed the profession. CELEBRATIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, List Night. Beautiful weather favored the Labor Day holiday. The Workers' Committee had arranged a picnic and sports, chiefly for children, in the Park, and had a good day and good attendance. The cricket season was opened, and the Bowlinsr Club opened the season's matches. The Rille Association had an opening shoot at the Patiti range. Wellington. Last Night. A close holidav was observed to-day for Lilmr Day. Great crowds went out lo Trentham races. About 2.10 attended' the Labor Day picnic and sports at Miramar, which passed off very successfully. Sir Joseph Ward was present at the sports during the afternoon. Napier, Last Night.
