MOA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board was held at Inglewood on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs. Trimble (chairman), Bridgeman, Chard, J. Williams, R. T. Williams, Collingwood, Lawrence, C'orkill and Anderson. CONDOLENCE. The chairman in feeling terms referred to the death of the late Mr. J. O. Peach, and moved that this Board | wishes to place on record its appreciation of the good work done by the late Mr. Peach for the benefit o;f the residents and district during his lifetime here, and tender its sincere sympathy to the relatives. —This was seconded by Mr. Bridgeman, and carried unani-
mously. The Board adjourned from 12.30 until 3 p.m. in order to enable members to attend the funeral. DAVIS ROAD. Mr. W. B. Fussell, clerk to the Waitara West Road Board, wrote that his Board would lie agreeable to pay £2 14s Bd, half cost of mantenance on the Davis Road for the past year, and they would also give an animal contribution of £B. They also wished an agreement drawn up specifying the same. ENGINEER'S REPORT. Mr. S. Orl>ell reported as follows: Upland Road. —The contractors for tiie formation along this deviation are making very good progress, and tenders closed at the meeting for forming and metalling the Upland road. On the "Bristol road, the formation between the 1 1 idgo and the Kaimata road, which ' 1 been left uncompleted for some i nitlis, was almost completed. Tenders will be called for metalling 1 is extension, to close in a fortnight. Tlie engineer was also 1 instructed to report on a box culvert at Ratapiko. MONTHLY STATEMENT. 'During the month the receipts were '£(s7 9s 7d (rates £4l 19s lOd). The expenditure had been £139 Os 8d (general) and £214 lfis lid. The bank balance showed credit to general account £524 os lOd and loan account £4ll 15s. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman Bennett reported that he had, been working on the Kaimata, Kupara, Toitoi and Motukawa roads. Some formation and water-tabling were required on the Kaimata south road. A culvert on the Ratapiko road had broken in and required renewing. Foreman T. B. Knofflock reported that he had been working on Mangaone, Bristol east, Kaimata north and Bristol west roads. About four chains of fencing was required on Norfolk road. Foreman Jones reported that Bedford | road was very rough. He had, how- | ever, enough metal in the pit to repair jit when weather permitted. He had repaired the worst parts of Norfolk west road, and also blinded the metal put' on by the settlers. The tunnel tin the Norfolk east Toad needed fencing. Work had been done on the Durham i east road, but further work was required on Durham west. • Foreman Staehurski reported that he I had been working on the Dudley, Kaipi, [ Egmont south and Lepper roads. Work was also required on the Upland, Hurst- | house and Bedford roads. On the latter road, near the Waiongona river, some metalling was required, which could be done at a cost of £lO. The reports were adopted, and the i foremen are to be instructed to attend ! to various details. I , KOHETE ROAD, i The chairman, Messrs. A. E. Lawrence and R. T. Williams reported on the three bridges on this road. Thev were respectively eighteen, twenty-two and fourteen feet in length. The two nearest Tariki were in a very bad state, and they recommended that these should be re-built, as soon as funds were available, and that the road at the first one c'.imild be straightened. Owing to the sluggish nature of the streams and the lowness of the banks, they thought it would ''c undesirable to build in concrete on the present sites, and they recommended that the engineer be in- | structed to report on the cost of rebuilding with Australian hardwood, and | also as to the feasibility and cost of rebuilding in concrete in solid ground and diverting tha stream into them—The report was adopted. UPLAND ROAD. A telegram was received from the Advances to Settlers Department, stating the £I6OO loan on the Upland road had been finally approved and that the debentures had been posted. _lf the chairman considers that sufficient money is available, a deviation will be made near Meßeth's. TENDERS. Tenders were received as follows: • Erection of shed for concrete pipcI making, TL Peterson and C., £OS; T. Arthur and Co., £52 (accepted). For forming and metalling Upland road: T. Parkin, formation £2OO, metalling £fi lfis per chain, re-coating (is 0d per'yard, pipes 2s 3d (accepted). GENERAL. A committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs. Lawrence, Williams, Bridgcman and Collingwood was appointed to meet next Saturday to fix quantity of stone required. Mr.J. B. Hinc. M.P., telegraphed that there were no votes on the Estimates for the Moa road district. Possibly a telegram from the chairman might have consideration on the Supplementary Estimates. He intimated that lie was interviewing the Minister on the subject.
