SYDNEY WHARF STRIKE.
STRIKERS NOT UNANIMOUS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, October 21. The wharf In borers are not unanimous in their desire. to continue the strike. A meeting yesterday, which had for its object the appointing of pickets, broke up in disorder, without definite •ction. The only work done at the inter-State wharf was the unloading of small quantities of perishable cargo and live stock by sailors and the consignees. BEEP SEA MEX THE CAUSE. Received 22. .3.5 p.m. Sydney. October 22. The strike position is unaltered. Sailors continue to work perishable cargo. I)iio no other is touched on the coastal and inter-State vessels. Fruit merchants unloaded the Paloona's with their own workmen, the wharf laborers having declined a guarantee of an extra threepence offered for this vessel.
The President of the Inter-State Steamship Owners declares that the strike was br ought about by the deep sea men, who are desirous themselves of obtaining a further increase. One compnay informed the merchants that 110 goods would be received for a fortnight.
COMPULSORY C<>XFEREXCK Received 23, 12.20 a.m. Sydney, October 22. The stride officials were summoned to a compulsory conference at Melbourne, and left to-night for that city. REFUSIXd CARUO. Melbourne, October 21. A meeting of the. Steamship Owners' Federation decided to refuse cargo for Sydney until the strike was settled.
