A London cablegram reports that Sergeant Ignatius O'Brien, formerly a reporter for the' Freeman's Journal, has been made Solicitor-General for Ireland. At the Inglewood station on Saturday Mr. G. Hanover, proprietor of the Inglewood-Purangi coach service, was presented by Mr. Tullv, statiomnaster, on Ibehalf of the railway stall' and carriers of Inglewood, with a handsome cruet in honor of his recent marriage.

A Palm-erst on Xorth wire states that Mr. R. C. Bruce, of Xgaruru, Hunterville, formerly member for Rangitikei. and well-known in Caledonian and Acclimatisation circles, who was operated on there last week, is progressing favorably, and it is expected that a further operation, necessary this week, will complete the cure. At Oha-ktine on Saturday night Mr. Jennings-, M.-P. for Tanmarunui, was presented with an illuminated address from his constituents in part of the electorate now included in other electorates. The member's services were highly eulogised. Mrs. Jennings was presented with a silver tea service. The gathering was representative of the whole district.— Press wire.

Mr. J. 11. Cniiekshank, Xew Zealand representative of Messrs. Collett and Co., Ltd., will leave Js T ew Plymouth at the' end of the present week on a business trip to the Old Country, and expects to arrive back in Xew Plymouth in next March. It .is the intention of Mr. Cniiekshank to travel Homewards by way of Sydney and Capetown, but to return via Xew York and overland to San Francisco and Vancouver. The recent inauguration by the Union Company of regular steam services across the Pacific will no doubt open up the way for increased trade with Canada and the United States, and in view of this -Mr. Cniiekshank will spend as much time as possible in San Kraucisco and A ancouver in order to become acquainted first-hand with present market conditions and requirements, with the object of extending his firm's existing connections in these countries. "
