((From Our Own Correspondent.) The late Mr. J. C. Peach came out here with the old 57th Regiment, known us the "Die Hards," of which lie was color-sergeant. After returning to the Old Land' he obtained his discharge, and came hack "to >"ew Zealand, making straight to Inglewood and settling here. This was,in 1875. His is the oldest business in the town that is bcinjj run by its founder. He was chairman of the first Town Board, and was for a number of years secretary of the local Court of Foresters. He was also one of the leading members of the Wesleyan Church, and for nniny years the superintendent of the Sumlay School. He has been in failing health for some years, and has had similar seizures on two occasions previously. The funeral takes place at 2 o'clock'on Saturday. The shops are all closing from i o'clock till 3 o'clock, Und''"tlt« filriVral is sure to he very largely attended, as the deceased gentleman was one of the best known and respected inhabitants of the district.
