WOMAN'S WORLD.

On Friday evening Dr. and Mrs. Paget entertained a number of friends at a progressive euchre party, the guests of honor being Mr. and Mrs. W. Campbell Raikes, who have purchased a place in the Bay of Islands. They have always assisted at all social functions and will be muck missed in the district. Dr. Paget, in a happy speech, presented Mr. and Mrs. Itaike.s with two very handsome pieces of plate, namely, a solid silver tea tray, suitably inscribed, and an entree dish, from their many friends in Stratford. Mr. Kaikcs thanked the donors on behalf of his wife and self. He said he would ever cherish the memory of his many kind friends in Stratford, and looked forward to seeing them all again in the near future. The largo reception rooms were a picture. Large bowls of white and purple iris artistically adorned the rooms, while the supper rooms were exquisitely decorated with quantities of primroses and late bulbs. The ladies' prizes for the euchre were won by Mrs. Munroe* (first) and Misses O'Brien and Peerless (boobies). The gentlemen's prizes were won by Mr. Fookes (first), and Mr. Cook (boobie). Dr. and Mrs. Paget received their guests at the hall entrance, the hostess wearing an exquisite gown of blue chiffon taffeta, with black sequinned over-dress. Mrs. Raikes wore a handsome black silk dress, with some lovely diamond ornaments; Mrs. W. Young, white satin gown, oveTr-dress of rich lace; Mrs. Wake, grey ninon, with touches of cerise; Mrs. G. Hobbs, gown of pale blue mouseline de soie; .Mrs. Porritt. dainty gown of soft white silk, trimmed with lovely lace; Mrs. Twiss, white chiffon taffeta, silver trimmings; ; Mrs. Anderson, red silk, relieved with black; Mrs. Munroe, pretty gown of rose ninon; Mrs. C. Penn, black silk, lovely gold ornaments; Mrs. Fookes, rich black velvet, trimmed with Maltese lace; Mrs. W. Malone, white silk, lovely silver scarf; Mrs. 0. Curtis, black silk gown;. Mrs. Rennell, green silk, spray of pink roses on corsage: .Mrs. Cheueheii, black silk crepe de chine, with touches of gold; Mrs. Crawshaw, rich gown of blaclc Spanish lace over glace; Mrs. \Lonergan, white silk, with over-dress of black lace; Mrs. Copping, handsome black silk, relieved | with real lace; Mrs. Menzies, pretty', cream silk, Mrs. Grant, black velvet,! with cream lace berthe; Miss Wake,: cream silk, coral ornaments; Miss Fus- I sell, cream silk; Miss M. dames, pale pink ' silk; Miss Anderson, dainty frock of I cream silk; '.Miss Black, dainty gown of pale blue silk: Miss O'Brien, white satin, trimmed with lace and insertion. .

Mrs. F. W. Wake gave a jolly afternoon tea for Mrs. W. Raikes oil Tuesday .afternoon, and a very happy time was spent. The drawing-room looked nice with quantities of lovely flowers. Mrs. Wake received her guests in a gown of heliotrope mouseline de soie; Mrs. Raikes, black cashmere de soie, smart black toque, pr.radise feathers; Miss Wake, cream gown; Miss.F. Wake, cream; Mesdames Young, (Dr.) Paget, Johnstone, Crawshaw, Fookes, Twlss,

Fookes (New Plymouth), Rennell and

Miss Peerless (Xelson). Musical items were contributed by Mrs. Johnston and Miss Peerless.

On Monday afternoon Mrs. \V. H. Young was '"at home" at her pretty residence. Brecon road, to a large number of friends to bid farewell to Mr.

and Mrs. \Y. Campbell Raikes. The drawing-room was prettily decorated with quantities of white broom, clem atis, violets and bulbs. Euchre was indulged in, Miss O'Brien carrying off first prize and Mrs. Fookes second. Mr. Johnston won the gentlemen's prize. Musical items were contributed by Messrs Johnston and Rennell and Miss Peerless. A very dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostess, who wore a wedgwoodblue cloth, beautifully braided with black silk braid; Mrs. (Dr.) Paget, peacock green cloth, braided with black silk braid, black velvet hat, with lovely plumes; Mrs. Raikes, black cloth, smart black toijiie; Mrs. Stubhs, blue voile, copper trimmings; Mrs. Cock (New Plymouth), green and black cloth costume, smart black and white hat; Mrs. Crawshaw, smart blue costume,, hat en suite: Mrs. Fookes, Coronation blue frock, beautifully braided, smart feathered toque; Mrs. \Y. Webster, navy serge costume, velvet toque; Mrs. Wake, mauve costume, heliotrope hat; Mrs. Johnstone. costume, 'black hat; Mrs. Twiss. light grey costume, red hat; Miss O'Brien, brown costume; Miss Butler, In-own costume, Oriental trimmings; Miss Kiissell, navy costume, blue hat, with large wings; Mrs. 0. Curtis, black costume; Mrs. Cheucheu, brown costume,, large "Maud Halliday" hat. l)r. and Mrs. Paget entertained a few friends at a supper party in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Raikes, and a happy time was spent. Amongst those present were Dr. and Mrs. Paget, Mr. and Mrs. Raikes, Mr. and Mrs. Young. Mrs. Cock (New Plymouth), Mr. J. R. Mackay, and Mr. Cook.
