Island news says that the Government punitive expedition has returned to Port Moresby from Central Papua with a number of native • prisoners charged with murder. The Muruitai villagers invited the Karuema tribesmen to a dance, and the visitors discovering that all but two of the Muruitai men were absent, killed these two, massacred the women and children, wiped out the village, feasted on the bodies of the victims, and departed with much loot. The expedition had much difficulty in capturing the murderers.
