THE WEATHER.
SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Meteorological Office has issued the following summary and forecast:— The barometer rose steadily in the north daring the night, and as the 6torm passed rapidly eastward the weather improved everywhere. To-day strong southerly winds, backing to westward, have prevailed, but the westerly gale has continued in Foveaux Strait. Present indications are for strong westerly ■winds generally, but bacfcing to northerly and increasing southward of New Plymouth and Napier, for a westerly low pressure is due to pass in the south on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Fair weather is probable on the east coast, but increasing cloudiness and more unsettled weather on the west coast and in the southernmost districts. Prospects for general weather conditions are at present rather unfavorable.
