Captain Sproul. representative of the Oceanic Company, in an interview with reference to the resumption of the San Francisco-Sydney service, stated that the company's steamers, Ventura, Sierra and Sonoma, are being reconstructed at a cost of a million dollars, with a view to re-starting the service. It is proposed to ask the Federal Government for a subsidy of £ISOO per trip on the basis of twelve trips a year. The steamers have a guaranteed speed of seventeen knots, and will make the trip from San Francisco to Sydney in twenty days, and also guarantee to land mails from London in thirty day;.
