Constable and Mrs. D. O'Neill returned last night from the south. .Mr. Cecil Wright, of the Mirando district, Hauraki Gulf, formerly of New Plymouth, is on a brief visit here. Tlie Hon. T. Mackenzie is one of the latest victims to influenza. He is now in the hands of the doctor, but is expected to be about again in a few days. Mr. H. W. Butler, local agent for tin; industrial department of the A.M.P. Society, has been appointed assistant superintendent in the Wellington branch. Tlie Board of Governors of the Xew Plymouth High School on Wednesday passed a resolution of sympathy with Mr. «. Percy-Smith and family in their sad bereavement. Mr. Thos. Buchanan, of Waitarn. returning officer for the Taumarunni electorate, leaves this morning for the northern portion of the district, and will he absent for about a week. The friends of Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P., who lias been ill for some weeks past, will regret to hear that he had a very bad turn on Sunday night (savs the Daily Times), and is'now confined to his bed and unable to see visitors. , Mr. E. Pridham has resigned his position as principal of the New Plymouth I High School. The resignation was accepted at Wednesday's meeting of thft Board of Governors." Mr. Pridham will retain his position till th'e end of the year. A London coble states that the wedding of Earl Percy and Lady Helen ' Gordon-Lennox at .St. Peter'*, Eton Square, was the most brilliant of the year. There was a great concourse of guests. The presents included ones from the King and Queen and other royalties. A Sydney cable states that a meeting in the Town Hall, presided over by tho Lord Mayor, decided to present Madame Melba with an address and a piece of gold plate in recognition of her patriotism in bringing out at great personal sacrifice the. Royal Opera Company. Over £2OO was subscribed. Archdeacon Willis, who has been vicar at Cambridge, for nearly 34 years, announced on Sunday evening that he had tendered his resignation to the Anglican Bishop of Auckland (Dr.'Crossley). His increasing deafness, and the fact that lie had passed the ordinary age for retirement, were stated to he the reasons for the decision. Mr. J. C. Peech, an old resident of Ingleiwood, died suddenly yesterday. Ho had gone to the railway station to meet Mns. Barton, the temperance lecturer, and when on the platform he had a> paralytic seizure.
