MR TAFT'S PERIL.
ATTEMPTS TO DYNAMITE THAR. , AFTERMATH OF A STRIKE. By Cable Association —Copyright Received 18, 1 a.m. New York, October 17. A report from Santa Barbara, California, states that twenty-six sticks of dynamite were discovered on the Southcm Pacific Railway's steel'bridge "before the passing of Mr. Taft's train. The watchman fired shots at a suspicious character who was loitering near the track. He afterwards investigated and found the dynamite. The outrage is bdieved to be in connection with a strike (if shopmen • employed on the railroad. Mr. Taft was not informed Of the ■dastardly attempt on liis life.
