DISTRICT NEWS.

I'REXUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) It is with regret that f have to record the death of Mr. A. ■( 1 il>l>es. which took place at his residence in the township on Sunday at I p.m. The deceased gentleman had been ill for some time. He had been residing in Urcnui about four years, having come from Tongaporutu, where lie had a farm, lie was a quiet, unassuming man, and well liked in the district. Much sympathy is expressed for Mrs. (libbes, who is left with three little children to mourn their loss. We have had nice rains lately, but. the weather has been rather cold at night. The rain came just in time tn save the situation as regards the dairying industry. The Woodville Bacon Company have started receiving pigs here every fortnight. This will be a great boon to settlers far back. _ (Politically, we are having a quiet time, and have not. been troubled with many addresses yet. What a lot of aspirants there seem to be for political honors! However. 1 think it will take f a good man to beat our sitting member. Telephone connection is now open to Pukearuhe. The party have left for a time, but will bo back shortly to finish the telephone exchange here. There are live subscribers already. ;
