Mr. F. CHcey, M.P., spent the week-end in New Plymouth. iA wcdl-known settler in the person of Mr. Arthur Gibbs died at Urenui yesterday, aetat 57. A Sydney cablegram states that advices have .been received of the death in London of Hurry Rickards, the wellknown- theatiieaJ proprietor. Mr. D. S. Taylor, of Wavcrley, underwent a serioiK operation at a New Plymouth hospital yesterday. His many friends throughout Taranaki will be pleased to learn that -the operation was entirely successful. Mr. C. E. Bt'llringer, acting-chairman of tho Taranaki Petroleum (■onipany. has just received a cablegram stating that Mr. €. farter is leaving for New Zealand by the Otranto on the 18th inst. The Otranto is due to arrive in I Melbourne on the 10th prox.
