The old soldiers' claims dealt with by the magistrates 'would be considered, but whether it was possible to go beyond that he could not say. SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT. Blenheim, Friday. Tahuaroa K. Watson, who has been chairman of the Ara.pa.wa Maori Council for the last nine years, intends contesting the Southern Maori electorate in the Liberal interest. Watenc K. Whiro, of Havelock, has withdrawn his candidature in Mr. Watson's favor. THE PATEA SEAT.

Mr. O'Dea had a groat meeting at Mokoia on Thursday night, Mr. J. Potts presiding. The candidate received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence, on the motion of Mr. W. Wills, seconded by Mr. J. Laiwlor. .The meeting was enthusiastic throughout, and at the conclusion accorded the candidate tfiTec rousing cheers. A strong committee, with Mr. R. McMurray as secretary, was formed to aid Mr. O'Dea's candidature.
