Afternoon Tea.—Last Monday afternoon Miss Ronnell gave a very jolly little afternoon tea in honor of Miss Allele Avery in May's Tea-rooms, during which a guessing competition was indulged in. resulting in the guest of the afternoon (Miss Avery) winning the first prize, and Mrs. Kebbell second honors. Miss Kcnnell received her guests in a cream co:it and skirt, black hat; Miss Avery, navy blue costume, .silk lace blouse, hat en suite; Mrs. Paul, myrtle green cashmere de soie, cream lace vest. black toque with pink roses; Mrs. F. Foote, black costume, pretty prunelle colored coat, black toque; Mr*. Kebbell, cream costume, pretty black hat wreathed with pink roses; Mrs. Avery, black coat and skirt, cream and black bonnet; Mrs. Dryden, mauve linen costume, black toque; Mrs. If. Stooker, navy blue coat and skirt, very pretty grey hat swathed | with silk; 'Mrs. S. Teed, navy coat and | skirt; saxe blue hat; Mrs. Hall, prune colored costume, black hat; Mrs. F. HesI kctli (Auckland), snart grey Norfolk coat, and skirt, pretty black and putty colored hat. massed with rose pink sweet peas; Mrs. Johnson, cream costume, cornflower blue hat; Miss Lning, white muslin, brown hat with large ribbon bows: Mrs. R. Cock, black costume, black and white toque. Bridge and Euchre Party.—On Tuesday evening last Mrs. Curtis gave a most enjoyable card party, and the prizes were won as follows: —Bridge: Ladies. Mrs. Kebbell; gentlemen. Mr. 0. Frasei; euchre: Ladies, Mrs. Ward: gentlemen, Mr. Terry Malone. A most recherche j supper was >erved in the dining-room. During the evening great amusement was caused by a guessing competition., As the guests entered into the dres-ing-rooins. they were presented with a mask, and when this h:id been adjusted, they ) were requested to adjourn to th<j»balcotiy, 'where one had to guess theWoloi of each individual's eyes. Opera. —'the dressing of the Pirates of Penzance by the local amateur company was dainly in the extreme, anil mo-d of the costumes were Miade jl>\- the owners' deft lingers. In the first act Miss (Hive liucknian was robed in a. dainty book muslin, tucked and finished with \";ileiicic;?iies lace, and her second frock was an exceedingly pretty white satin, with a ninon tunic embroidered in
silver and caught in at the waist with a silken "irdle. Miss Pirewster arrives to-night (Saturday) by the mail train after attending the golf tournament in Wellington. Mrs. and Miss Leila Webster leave for Auckland by the s.s. liarawa on Monday, where tlicv will be the guests of Mrs. Lusk. Miss Sybil Fitzherbert is the guest of her brother, Mr. Pat Fitzherbert, Danncrirke. Miss Iknvley returned last night (Friday) from JMnnovirke, where she has been visiting her cousin, Mrs. Pritchard, of Dannevirke. after her visit to Wellington. ORANGE BLOSSOMS. AVERY—WMJSTEIt. After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride's parents' ■ residence, at which the usual toasts were i drunk. The happy couple left by the ■ 4.1.5 p.m. train en route to Napier, where - the honeymoon is to be spent.
