In the House Mr. Johnson declared that when the independent cable service was started members were led to believe that 300 new;mpcrs were prepared to take it. No W they found that under a dozen were taking it, after over CJOtIO had been spent in subsidies. The Government would do well to look at some of the scare headlines published in connect ion with the new service. As a financial transaction they were concerned in what, they were subsidising, and (he Government should not be a party to misrepresentation of facts.
Mr. Ki.dicr declared that he could prove the public had sained more than it had ffiven up. He indicated that he mijd.il. increase the term over which the subsidy was payable, but he would not increase the annual amount.
