AUCKLAND ROBBERY.
SUSPECTS BROUGHT FROM AMERICA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. William and Maud Rogers, who are suspected of stealing jewellery from Kohn's shop in Queen street, Auckland, on March 18th last, arrived by the Moana to-day in charge of Deteetivo Scott, of Auckland. William Rogers arrived in California from Hongkong, whence he had apparently gone via Sydney from Auckland on April. Maud (Rogers arrived two days Inter, and the police's suspicions were aroused by the sudden inundation 'of jeweller}' in two pawnbrokers' shops. Early on the morning of May 4, Rogers was arrested, and in the evening his wife was also taken into custody. Both were charged with smuggling £IOOO worth of stolen property into the State. A good deal of the stolen property was recovered from pawnshops and a room at Winchester Hotel which they had engaged. Rogers and his wife refused to discuss the affair, but when confronted with various articles recovered, admitted having gone to Frisco from Sydney. Most of the jewellery recovered was' marked "Kolm," hit Rogers declared that it belonged to a brother in England.
