FARMERS' UNION.
OPI'NAKE BRANCH. I The monthly meeting of the Opunake Farmers' Union was held on Saturday. .Mr. J. Mcllardy presided over a good attendance.. Copies of resolutions passed at the Dominion Conference were received from the provincial executive for consideration. Resolution I.—That seeing the great importance of the dairy industry in New Zealand the conference, urges dairy companies, A. & P. Societies, and branches of the Union to use every effort to foster and encourage cow testing. It having been decided at a previous meeting that the, various dairy companies be approached at their respective annual meetings, it transpired that some companies, had been deputationised and others had not. Mr. Forsyth outlined the scheme adopted by the Kaupokonui and Riverdale companies, and found to be quite workable. It was resolved that Mr. Julian wait on the Pihama directors and leave it in their hands. Resolution 2. That branches be asked to experiment with manures, crops and fodder.—The principle was very favorably commented on, and it was decided that this branch will do its utmost to foster experiments. Resolution 4.—lie combines.—This was considered too intricate, and it was decided to leave it in the lutnds of the colonial executive. The question of a Farmers' Day was left with the provincial executive to deal with. POLITICAL FEDERATION. The conference forwarded the platform of the Fanners' Political Protection Federation, which has already been published.
_ Mr. Lambie explained that the provincial executive, although forwarding the remit i ' the approval or otherwise of the branches had. on account of the limited time available, appointed a committee to carry out the proposals set forth.
The meeting decided to fall into line as on previous occasions.
It was resolved to heartily approve of tie movement of employing organisers to advance tile political welfare m the farming com in un i t;y. It was resolved that 500 copies ' f the prize essay oil the objects of thj New Zealand Farmers. Union be procured for distribution.
