PETROLEUM NEWS
TARANAKI COMPANY. The deposit of £'2ooo on account of the purchase of the company's properties has been received by the Taranaki Petroleum Company, having been remitted by Mr. Girter from London. Nos. 2 and 3 wells are flowing as usual. The manager, >f]-, Keith, is personally conducting operations at Xo. 5 'bore, with a view to securing pavable oil without delay.
IXCLEWOOD OILFIELDS (UMI'ANY. The -'fixing" agreement of the Inglewood. (K.Z.)' Oilfields Company ami Mr. T. C. Xicholls, whereby the hitter's oil prospecting rights are transferred to the former, lias been signed. We may therefore feel satisfied, says the Inglewood Kecord, that active prospecting wiil soon be the, order of the d«iv, and oil life really begin. Xo one dare venture to prophecy the future of our district field.-; but the results of the surface scratching in the one or two spots disiurbrd about here have been sufficient to bring underwritten capital in very large sums to the credit of the company. and its expenditure will soon be an established fact. Let us hope the capital may quickly find response pulses in the oil wells below, when a new era will soon be upon us.
