THE TIMARU SEAT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Mr. Jfts. Wallace was asked to become the Opposition candidate for Timavu, but on the advice of his doctor he declined. A meeting of the party decided to ask Mr. J. Harold Moore, solicitor, to stand. He gives his reply on Saturday.
WELLINGTON SOUTH SEAT. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh, Labor candidate for Wellington South, delivered his opening speech to-night. He said school teachers should receive higher pay. The workers had lost confidence in the Arbitration Court. A new party was needed, the present Government having failed to do anything for the democracy.
THE TARANAKI SEAT. A well attended and enthusiastic meeting of the Liberal Federation was held last night, and' preliminary arrangements in connection with the forthcoming campaign were mapped out. A meeting of Government supporters will be held on Tuesday next to arrange for united action throughout the district.
ADVANCES TO WORKERS. Christehurch, during the last three years, has more largely availed itself of advances to workers than any other centre in New Zealand, the number of loans toeing 730, as against 423 in Wellington, 504 in Auckland, and 250 in Dunedin.
