Sydney sports who visited the Hawksbury meeting saw a good race in the Guineas. Popinjay, the favorite, was caught and ibeateu in the very last stride by the big Posituno colt Pontano. Pontano is out of that line Malua mare Mora, and is quite likely to develop into a good colt. At present he is on the
A short while back an Australian writer stated that J. Cutts. who rode Archer in the first two Melbourne Cups, was in Western Australia, and was at the Kalgoorlie races. "Tenlinga" has a contradiction of this from Tom Lamond, wlro trained Archer. He could not say exactly when Cutts died-, but he remembered attending his funeral, and he also knew that George Donnelly, who rode Mr. De Mcstre's Tim Whiffler in many of 'his races, and afterwards Liniline, had married his widow. Frank Wilkinson put the date of death down as occurring about the time Loup Garou won the Sydney Derby of 1572. Tom Brown, who rode. Loup Garou, and afterwards trained Grand Flaneur, married a daughter of "Johnny Cutts." As a matter of fact, Cutt's name was Dillon.
(Some people in 'Sydney think the Totalisator Bill will pass this tinne. Mr. Levien is said tlo be quite confident about getting his Bill through. How, wo wonder, says the "Australasian," if the Bill doe 9 pass, will the proprietary trouble be overcome? Are the shareholders of the various tracks away from liamlrwick and Hawks-bury to have tlie benefit of the percentages? This will be a matter which will take stome arranging, ibut if the totalisator does come attendances will be further increased.
