FIGHTING IN PORTUGAL.
MONARCHISTS CHASED OVER THE BORDER. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Lisbon, October 0. The Government troops, after sustaining the Monarchist fire for an hour, occupied Vinhaes and chased the Monarchists across the border. Two of the pursuers were wounded. There is still a small concentration of Monarchists at Salguciros, and guerilla operations in the Viiinna-de-Castello district.
The Government has protested to Spain at the,violation of the frontier. The Premier, in an interview, declared that, the invasion had failed because the army was faithful. Forbearance had been shown to the Monarchists, but henceforth severe measures would be employed. The Minister of War has resigned, and the Government is asking the Premier, Scnhor Arraiga, to summon the Cortes to provide the means of rapid trial of the Monarchist conspirators.
MONARCHISTS DISHEARTENED. Madrid, October 9. The Monarchists withdrew, disheart ened by the failure of the Oporto plot.
